Pune/Mumbai Highway transport operators have threatened to go on an indefinite strike beginning on July 1 if their calls for concerning e-challans, fines, cleanliness laws, and entry restrictions in metropolitan cities usually are not met by June 30. Stating their points, transporters mentioned that they’re compelled to pay penalties and e-challans whereas the autos are on responsibility, which causes delays and impacts their schedule and punctuality.

Talking concerning the protest Baba Shinde, president of the Maharashtra drivers-owners and representatives federation mentioned, “If the state authorities fails to satisfy our calls for by July 1, we are going to start an indefinite chakka jam throughout Maharashtra from July 2. This determination was taken unanimously through the assembly.”

They sought a waiver of the present fines, and demanded the removing of the rule which mandates the presence of a helper in heavy autos. 

Additionally they wished the state to put off ‘no-entry’ timings in cities.

Since June 16, representatives of the affiliation of transporters have been on an indefinite sit-in protest on the Azad Maidan in South Mumbai, however their points stay unaddressed. 

On Wednesday, the Vahatukdar Bachao Kruti Samiti (VBKS), a bunch of transporters, introduced an indefinite strike towards the ‘unjust’ implementation of e-challans within the state, heavy visitors violation penalties, and requested the state to resolve gaps in its transport infrastructure.
