A 30-year-old man died after allegedly being thrashed by a number of Border Safety Drive (BSF) personnel in Assam’s Cachar district, triggering protests by locals, an official stated on Sunday.
The incident came about on Friday night time close to the India-Bangladesh border in Katigorah, and the person succumbed to his accidents at a hospital on Saturday, he stated.
It has led to public protests in entrance of the native Circle Workplace, demanding strict motion in opposition to the culprits.
“An allegation in opposition to BSF was raised {that a} youth, recognized as Nirmol Namasudra, of Amtoli village within the border space, died on Saturday after being severely crushed up by a number of BSF jawans a day in the past. The BSF personnel took him to an area hospital on Friday night time,” an official stated.
As the person suffered grievous accidents, he was despatched to Silchar Medical Faculty and Hospital and later died there, he added.
“Though the administration took some steps to regulate the scenario in Katigorah, stress prevailed with locals assembling on the Circle Workplace and demanding the arrest of the BSF personnel,” the official stated.
He, nevertheless, stated that no grievance has been filed by the household of the deceased and no case has been registered but.
The Border Safety Drive couldn’t be reached for touch upon the allegation.
