A 20-year-old pupil from BITS Pilani’s Goa campus was discovered lifeless in his hostel room on Saturday. The institute acknowledged the loss of life was “pure” and that he had “handed away in his sleep.”
Based on The Indian Express, police have begun inquest proceedings and stated it seems to be a case of pure loss of life. The incident was reported round 11.30 am, after which a group from Verna police station arrived on campus.
“The scholar was discovered mendacity on his mattress in a sideward sleeping place. The earlier night time, he performed desk tennis on the campus and later returned to his room. The room was locked from the within. When he didn’t reply the door on Saturday, the hostel authorities had been knowledgeable. The reason for loss of life can be ascertained after the autopsy on Sunday,” a police officer was quoted as saying by publication.
In a press release, the institute confirmed that the deceased was a third-year twin diploma pupil of BE Pc Science and MSc Economics, with a CGPA near 9.
“The BITS Pilani Okay Okay Birla Goa Campus neighborhood is deeply saddened by the lack of one in all its college students right this moment. He was present in an unresponsive state on his mattress when his room was opened at round 11am (on August16), and the medical group confirmed that he had handed away in his sleep. The police had been knowledgeable and have initiated the required procedures to determine the reason for loss of life, and we’re totally cooperating,” the institute’s public relations officer Arjun Halarnkar was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
“His father referred to as his pals to test about his son’s whereabouts, whereby they tried lots to open the door of his hostel block which was locked from inside. They later checked from the ventilator and located the scholar mendacity on the mattress,” Halarnkar added.
4th loss of life case in 9 months
This marks the fourth pupil loss of life reported on the BITS Pilani Goa campus previously 9 months. The earlier three instances had been suicides.
The campus drew consideration in Could when the institute initiated an inner inquiry following three suicides reported since December 2024.
The primary case concerned a 21-year-old second-year BE Pc Science and MSc Chemistry pupil from Uttar Pradesh, who died by suicide in December 2024. The second incident occurred in March 2025 and anxious a 20-year-old third-year twin diploma pupil. The third case, reported in Could 2025, concerned a 20-year-old from Lucknow, a second-year twin diploma pupil in MSc Chemistry and BE Electrical and Instrumentation, in line with The TOI.
In response, the institute introduced a sequence of measures geared toward easing educational strain and bettering pupil well-being.
These included overhauling the curriculum, increasing counselling companies with skilled psychologists, launching a 24×7 helpline, organising classes with school to deal with pupil issues, and introducing weekly psychiatrist consultations.
The authorities additionally assured that “college students in misery got flexibility to take examinations at a later time” and stated new programs on psychological and bodily wellness and stress administration could be a part of the revised curriculum.
